One last time: Disgruntled MPAs to meet Khattak

Say if issues remain unresolved they will resign

PESHAWAR: Six of the disgruntled members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have decided to hold one last meeting with Chief Minister Pervez Khattak. They would discuss their share in the development funds, misbehaviour of the police and government officials with lawmakers and transfer of the deputy commissioner.

While talking to The Express Tribune, one of the party members, who was part of the meeting held on September 16, said, the meeting with the chief minister would be their last resort after which if issues remain unresolved they would record their protest in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and then resign.



The MPAs who met on Friday included Arbab Jehandad Khan, Arif Yousad, Fazal Elahi, Mehmood Jan, Muhammad Ishtiaq and Shaukat Yousafzai. They came together at Arbab Jehandad’s residence where they decided to hold a meeting with the chief minister.

Trail of complaints

While speaking about the reservations disgruntled MPAs had, the party member said Peshawar was being ignored since the incumbent provincial government assumed office. He added they brought the issue to notice of the chief minister several times, but all in vain.

He maintained members of PTI Peshawar chapter had no authority, while the deputy commissioner had all the powers and he was running the entire city without consulting the lawmakers in matters. He said the people of their respective constituencies elected them and therefore they were answerable to the public.

“People want work from us,” he said. “On what basis will we ask for votes for the party if we have done nothing for the people?”  The party member urged PTI Chairperson Imran Khan to resolve the issue otherwise results of the upcoming elections would be against the party.

Unheeded attempts 

PTI MPA Mehmood Jan, of PK-7 Peshawar-VII, confirmed the meeting of MPAs held on September 16, saying they have raised their voice for the rights of people of Peshawar, but the chief minister was using delaying tactics. He also said the meeting would be their last option, if still their demands remain unheard they will protest on the assembly floor, then resign.

He said on Sunday the party leadership was busy regarding the Raiwind march, but they would meet the chief minister on Monday (today).

He hoped the chief minister would listen to their demands.
