KARACHI: The health department will appoint another 4,500 doctors very soon, said Health Minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro while talking to the media after a visit to various public-sector hospitals of Karachi on Thursday.

It is very challenging to utilise the existing resources of the health department in an effective way, he said, adding that the department is currently facing an acute shortage of doctors. Around 4,500 doctors will be appointed in the department, he informed.

Two-hundred-and-fifty specialist doctors have been inducted by the department and soon they will be appointed in different public-sector hospitals across the province, he mentioned.

Talking about the ghost employees, he said that they are being scrutinised by the health department. Soon all the ghost employees will be taken to task, he added.

Strict action will also be taken against all the employees who failed to provide free medicines to the patients, he said.

The health department’s complaint number will soon be displayed at every hospital for the convenience of the people, he added.
