LAHORE: Sardar Awais Leghari, an MNA from Dera Ghazi Khan, met Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday to discuss progress on various public welfare projects underway in his area.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that the government was implementing a comprehensive programme for progress and prosperity in southern districts. He said resources allocated for southern districts in the Annual Development Programme were more than their share in terms of population alone. He said Rs173 billion would be spent on these districts under various development projects.

The chief minister said with the completion of work on the Multan Metro Bus project a modern and affordable public transport facility would become available in the city.

He said the government was aware of the need to supply potable water to the citizens. He said a project had been started in several southern districts in this regard.

Sharif said he was personally supervising all development projects underway in southern districts.

Separately, Special Monitoring Unit Senior Member (Law and Order) Salman Sufi on Monday gave a briefing to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Dealer Vehicle Registration System (DVRS). He said indiscriminate action was being taken against those caught driving vehicles not registered with the authorities concerned. He said the scope of the DVRS would later be extended to other districts of the province. Sufi also briefed the chief minister about progress of work on the establishment of a Women Protection Authority in the province. He said timely completion of work on the project would be ensured.
