This app lets you make calls from a PTCL landline number using your smartphone
SmartLink uses your mobile's internet connection to let you use your landline number
Gone are the days when landline phone was the king and the prime mode of remaining connected. Besides mobile phone penetration and the boom in telecom industry that allowed telcos to reduce the tariff significantly, one of the basic reasons why fixed landline phones became outdated and people switched over to mobile phones was the landline phone’s non-mobility.
This ‘All-in-One’ app lets you use Messenger, WhatsApp and Skype simultaneously
In order to restore landline to its old glory, PTCL has relaunched an app that lets you make and receive calls from your landline number while on the go.
PLCL’s SmartLink app uses your smartphone’s 3G network or WiFi connection to let you make and receive calls that come to your landline number even when you are not at home.
7 amazing things you didn’t know Facebook Messenger can do
Once you download the app, you can sign up for the service by entering few details including your landline number, name and National Identity Card number on which your PTCL landline number is registered, email address and a password along with the mobile phone number on which you want to avail the service.
The app not only allows you to make voice calls, but also enables you to send/receive messages and make video calls to your friends on SmartLink.
You also have the option to customise the app to restrict it to just make calls not receiving it or allow the app to receive/make calls when connected to WiFi only.
Although the app is free of charge, you’ll be charged according to your landline tariff for calls made to other landline and mobile numbers.
The app is available on both Android and iOS. You can download app from here:
