Expectation: Restore public confidence in police, CM tells new men

LAHORE: “Sub inspectors are an asset for our police force. People have high expectations from them. They should serve with diligence and dedication,” said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday.

He was talking to trainee sub inspectors at the Police College in Sihala. The chief minister distributed awards among top performing trainees.

“You have achieved these awards through your hard work. You should continue to work hard so that crime can be eliminated and people get access to justice,” he said.

“Training at an institute is different from practical work,” the chief minister said. “Now you must prove your capability in the field.”

“As many as 800 sub inspectors are joining the police force. They will have to play their role in maintaining peace and public order.”

“The government wants to improve police stations and change the current thana culture,” he said.

“You must restore public confidence in the police force,” he said. “You are now being empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property and limit civil disorder. This job comes with great responsibility. You must be ready to take it up.”

He urged the new sub inspectors to perform their duties efficiently and assured them of the support of provincial government in this regard.

“Induction of young blood in the police force will change its image,” he said. He urged them to reinvigorate the Police Department. “You should share your ideas for improvement of the police force. "You should not hesitate from reporting your superiors or colleagues who are involved in corruption.”

“The government is enforcing a policy of merit and transparency in all departments,” he said. “It is because of this policy that children from low income households secured jobs as policemen.”

Safe City Project

The chief minister presided over a meeting to review the Safe City Project.

The meeting approved various proposals regarding the project, including expanding its scope to five cities in the province. The cities include Multan, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Bahawalpur.

Addressing the meeting, Sharif said Safe City Project was an important towards making the province a safe, prosperous and peaceful province.

He said the project would help eliminate crime. “Nothing is more important than protection of life and property of citizens.”

The chief minister said modern training was being provided to staff recruited for the project.

“Dolphin Force and Police Response Unit will also be a part of this project,” he said.

Healthcare

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided a meeting to review proposals for improvement of the healthcare system in the province on Saturday.

Addressing the meeting, Sharif said it was important to learn from the experience and skills of those running private hospitals.

Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting to review the pace of progress on the Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute project and the measures being taken to curb hepatitis.

The chief minister said a survey should be conducted to collect data of hepatitis patients.

“The Hepatitis Control Programme should be strengthened and a comprehensive campaign should be launched on preventive measures against hepatitis,” he said.
