HCCI demands Karachi-Hyderabad train service

Says construction of M-9 motorway troubling passengers, trade

HYDERABAD: With the Karachi-Hyderabad highway increasingly becoming a cause of trouble for commuters due to the ongoing construction of the M-9 motorway project, Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) has demanded a train service between the two cities.



To underline the threat to people and trade between the two cities, HCCI communications committee chairperson Mohammad Ziauddin cited the recent accident near Karachi, in which two persons were killed and almost 30 vehicles were burnt after a tanker exploded.



In a press statement, the HCCI demanded that a train service between Karachi and Hyderabad for people and goods should be started at the earliest. Currently, the final destinations of the trains that move through the two cities are in the cities of Upper Sindh, Punjab or Khyber-Pakhtunkwa. "The highway has become very dangerous for people and goods being transported. Around 30 to 40-kilometre-long traffic lines can be seen with cars stuck among huge container trucks," observed Ziauddin.
