Two Bohra community members targeted late Friday night
KARACHI:
Two members of the Dawoodi Bohra community were attacked by unidentified assailants in North Nazimabad late Friday night.
According to police officials and witnesses, two armed men riding a motorcycle came close to the victims and escaped after shooting them. North Nazimabad DSP Naeem Khan said that the victims were identified as 25-year-old Hatim, son of Feroz, and Ammar Abid, 32. Hatim died shortly after the incident while Feroz, who was shot once in his leg, was admitted to hospital where doctors termed his condition out of danger.
The victims were targeted when they were standing outside their flats.
"One of them [suspects] who was riding a motorcycle wore a helmet while the man sitting behind him opened fire at the victims," said DSP Khan while quoting the wounded victim. The DSP said that the deceased used to work at a private company while the injured did volunteer work for the community.
The DSP added that a couple of years ago, two Bohra community members were also shot dead in two similar consecutive attacks in the area. He claimed that the police are trying to ascertain the links between the recent and the previous incidents.
The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained while a case has been registered and further investigation is under way, he added.
