Former controller alleges Asmatullah caused loss worth millions of rupees

Asmatullah, the director of the food department, has been accused of misusing his powers. The allegations were levelled by Qazi Fidaur Rehman, a former food controller in Bannu, while speaking to journalists in Bannu Press Club on Saturday. The director was unavailable to comment on the matter despite repeated attempts to contact him.

During the news conference, Rehman said the food department stored 142,000 wheat bags in 2013 for two years.
“However, according to policy, the wheat bags should be distributed to required districts before they deteriorate,” the former food controller said. Rehman added, he along with, local flour mills repeatedly urged the food departments to send wheat bags to districts before they deteriorated.

“However, the food department ignored these requests,” he said. According to Rehman, he sold the wheat stock to districts and sent the amount of Rs500 million collected back to food department.
He said a writ petition was also filed in the Peshawar High Court. The court ruled in favour of Rehman and ordered the relevant authorities not to take any action against him. Rehman said the food director have caused a deficit of several million rupees through his actions but nobody took notice of it.
