Expectations: Incompetence won’t be tolerated, says CJ

LAHORE: “Judges with a bad reputation cannot deliver justice,” Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah said on Friday. He was addressing the concluding ceremony of a training programme for judicial officers made OSDs at the Punjab Judicial Academy. “Cases should be disposed of within the set timeframe, no matter what the circumstances,” the chief justice said.  “Changing public perception about the provincial judiciary is my top priority,” he said.  “Judicial officers are not civil servants. Soon, their cadre will be changed to judicial cadre through a Punjab Judiciary Act,” he said Justice Shah urged judicial officers to focus on developing a professional attitude. “Incompetent judges will not be tolerated,” he said. The chief justice said, “We must work like a family. It is your duty to point out black sheep amongst us so that they can be removed.”  The chief justice also gave away certificates to judicial officers on completion of the training programme. Justice Mahmood Maqbool Bajwa, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Registrar Syed Khurshid Anwar Rizvi, Inspection Team Member Tahir Sabir and Director General of the academy Uzma Akhtar Chughtai were also present.
