National T20 Cup: Karachi Whites claim narrow win over Rawalpindi
Aziz’s half-century helps side to six-run win in last-over thriller
KARACHI:
Danish Aziz’s unbeaten half-century helped Karachi Whites edge out Rawalpindi by six runs in the National T20 Cup at the Multan Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Opting to bat first, Karachi Whites posted a total of 140 as Aziz scored 52 off 36 balls — hitting five fours and two sixes in the process — on a pitch that wasn’t too easy to bat on. Asad Shafiq and Tariq Haroon scored 28 and 25 runs respectively in support of Aziz.
Chasing 141, Rawalpindi were restricted to 134, despite the best efforts of skipper Umar Amin, who scored 50 off 38 balls to get his side within touching distance of the target. Tabish Khan and Mir Hamza took two wickets apiece, giving away 26 and 34 runs respectively.
Aslam half-century gives Islamabad maiden win
“It was a really good match, Rawalpindi scored some quick runs at the end but after Amin’s wicket we had the match in our hand,” said Karachi Whites skipper Asad Shafiq. “Our batsmen didn’t do that well today but bowlers covered up to guide us to this victory.”
Left-arm pacer Hamza has been impressing in recent matches and said he is sticking to the plan given to him by the management.
“I just went according to the plan. A catch was dropped on the third delivery of my first over and that cost us but the same fielder took a smart catch to dismiss Amin off my bowling so the fielders have been supporting us,” he said.

Batting first, Peshawar were able to post a total of 140, with the help of Sohaib Maqsood’s 30. Hammad Azam and Shadab Khan took two wickets each for Rawalpindi.
