Police detained on Wednesday Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda soon after he began addressing a protest rally that caused massive traffic jams on various roads of Karachi, mainly Shahrah-e-Faisal.

He was taken into custody by SSP Malir Rao Anwar, and a case was registered against him at Airport police station.

Earlier, commuters were left helpless while trying to return to their homes after office hours due to the protest demonstration, organised by the civil society near Star Gate, reported Express News.

Police also resorted to baton-charge for dispersing the participants of the rally.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Naeemul Haque distanced the party from the protest, and apologised for difficulties caused to the citizens. “PTI had nothing to do with the protest due to which people of Karachi were left stranded in the traffic jam,” Haque said in a statement.
