A good call: Ryan Gosling gets into ‘Blade Runner’ mode
Director David Villeneuve satisfied with casting actor in sequel of Ridley Scott film
According to Canadian director Denis Villeneuve, making a sequel to the 1982 cult hit Blade Runner — wherein Harrison Ford hunted down humanoids — is an “insane project,” reported Reuters.
Villeneuve opened up about the as yet unnamed movie — which is scheduled for release next year — while promoting his sci-fi thriller Arrival at the on-going Venice Film Festival. The film-maker went on to heap praise on Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling, who has been cast as a lead in the forthcoming sequel. “I can say nothing except that the film is an insane project that is moving forward,” said Villeneuve. “We are in the middle of the shoot right now and Ryan Gosling is fantastic! For me, it’s a big, big, big artistic encounter and I have never been that inspired by an actor before. Ryan is really doing something special in front of the camera right now.”
Producers have said the new Blade Runner film will be set decades after the original but remained mum on other details regarding the project. The cast includes Ford as well as Oscar winner Jared Leto and House of Cards actor Robin Wright.
