KARACHI:
Administrators of all six districts of the metropolis, including that of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and in the rest of the province, have been relieved of their assignments by the Local Government and Town Planning Department on Tuesday through a notification.

Since all elected representatives have now taken oath as chairman, vice-chairman, etc, there is no need of administrators in the District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) and the KMC.

According to the local government minister, all elected members of the city council would be given powers according to the law.

He said that the Sindh government would cooperate with all the elected chairmen and vice-chairmen as well as mayors and deputy mayors.

Meanwhile, the demand of Wasim Akhtar to run his office from jail has been turned down by the Sindh government which has asked deputy mayor Arshad Vohra to look after the mayor’s functions.

“We cannot fulfill this unlawful demand and have delegated powers to the deputy mayor till he [Akhtar] gets bail,” local government secretary Baqaullah Unar told The Express Tribune.
