Ikea's new Do-It-Yourself Restaurant, in which diners will be the chefs, hopes to take the Swedish retailer's DIY ethos to a new level.

According to an Ikea statement, "Diners will orchestrate an intimate foodie experience in a homely kitchen environment to mimic an actual dinner party, but one where diners can host many more guests than usual." Anyone attending Ikea's Dining Club will be able to cook a meal for up to 20 friends under the supervision of a head chef.

“We bond and connect over the everyday process of cooking meals together so to celebrate this firmly held belief, we are opening The Dining Club to bring people together to enjoy a meal from beginning to end. This will take place in an environment that reflects a homely kitchen, so you can host a dinner party for all of your friends,” Ikea Food commercial manager Ellie Pniok said in a statement.

“With people spending less time cooking and eating together in the UK, Ikea are giving the foodies, wannabe-cooks, kitchen-novices and fine-diners the chance to express themselves and impress their friends in a restaurant where they will have their very own sous chef and maître de,” Pniok added.

Diners who manage to book a place will quite literally "take over the restaurant", choosing their own menu and even naming the restaurant after themselves. The restaurant will be representing Swedish culture by offering a range of Scandinavian sharing dishes and classics. Visitors will also be able to attend interactive master classes hosted by popular chefs.

The Dining Club, located in Shoreditch, east London will open its doors on September 10 and run till September 25.  Reservations for brunch, lunch or dinner can be made online. The dining experience is free of charge for all participants.
