Modern methods: Drip irrigation to be installed on 200 acres

Drip irrigation is a modern irrigation system for efficient use of water

MULTAN:
The Agriculture Department will install a drip irrigation system on 200 acres in Multan district under the Punjab Irrigated-Agriculture Productivity Improvement Project (PIPIP) programme, District Officer Farrukh Jawad said.

“Drip irrigation is a modern irrigation system for efficient use of water. It will enhance productivity of orchards,” he said.

He said the government would bear 60 per cent of the expenses for installation of the system. “The rest should be funded by farmers,” he said. “Recently, we installed drip irrigation systems on 800 acres in the district,” he said. “Now, the district is producing grapes, lychee and many other fruits,” he said. He said farmers could submit applications for the new system with the department.
