ISLAMABAD:
An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday sent Raja Arshad Mehmood, the main suspect in the Barrister Fahad Malik murder case, on physical remand for three days.

While granting remand, ATC Judge Kausar Abbas Zaidi also ordered a medical check-up of the suspect before the next hearing.

Mehmood, the prime suspect, was arrested by the FIA on August 28 while attempting to flee to Afghanistan via the Torkham border.

As his name was on the exit control list (ECL), a separate case was registered against him for illegally fleeing the country before he was handed over to Khyber Agency political administration.

On August 30, the Islamabad chief commissioner through a letter requested the FATA administration to transfer Mehmood to Islamabad for investigation in the murder case. He was handed over to the Islamabad Police on Thursday.

Noman Khokhar, the other nominated suspect in the murder case, has already been arrested and is on physical remand.

The Shalimar police had booked Mehmood, Khokhar and other eight unidentified persons in the deadly attack on Malik and his uncle, Malik Tariq Ayub. Ayub was injured in the attack.

In an application submitted to the police, Ayub maintained that he was injured by a bullet fired by Khokhar, while Malik was shot at and killed by Mehmood.

Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act was inserted in the chargesheet at a later stage after the police determined that the discharge of weapons in a public place spread terror and fear consistent with the text of the law.
