Congo virus can be transmitted through contact with animals

Another case of Crimean Congo Haemorrhagic Fever, a tick-borne viral disease, has emerged at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), confirmed the centre's joint executive director and emergency ward incharge, Dr Seemin Jamali, on Thursday.
Shahid Khan, a 16-year-old student, was admitted at the hospital on Wednesday with a five-day history of high-grade fever, bleeding in his gums and vomiting. The teenager is a resident of Frontier Colony in Banaras, which is situated in SITE and also has a history of contact with animals. Congo virus can be transmitted through contact with animals.
JPMC's focal person, Dr Javed Jamali, told The Express Tribune that antiviral treatment has been initiated and the patient has been shifted to an isolated ward within the facility.
