The Chaman border was shut on August 18 after a large number of Afghans flung stones at the Friendship Gate, smashing windowpanes of several government departments and desecrating the Pakistani flag.

Reports suggested the Afghans were incensed by demonstrations in Balochistan sparked by Indian premier Narendra Modi’s speech on August 15 – India’s Independence Day – showing their support to the neighbouring country.

Trade relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan came to a halt after the shutdown of the border gate as vehicles and trucks wanting to resume the operation were seen standing idle near the gate.

Pakistani and Afghan border authorities held four flag meetings to resolve the impasse. The latter demanded that the border should be reopened unconditionally while the former refused to budge till an apology was tendered for provoking their compatriots into disrespecting the Pakistani flag.

Humza | 7 years ago | Reply @Salim Khan: Let the Afghans keep airlifting goods to India and keep the gates closed. This is what most Pakistanis want. The problem is that a lot of criminals and Indian agents cross the borders so Pakistan should keep this border closed for as long as it takes to ensure safety. Don't worry about any "losses" to Pakistani traders and let Indian keep airlifting everything to and from Afghanistan ! We all now the reality so silly comments by Indian trolls don't matter.
Salim Khan | 7 years ago | Reply Afghanistan's fruits and Veges that are exported to India through these gates were all airlifted by Indian airplanes with special concession, leading to no loss to Afghanistan. But our products that go to Afghanistan were all stuck-up in Pakistan at these gates leading to the loss of millions to our traders. No wonder Afghanistan started to show this attitude now.
