Capacity-building: Training programme for Rescue instructors launched

Fourteen new instructors from various provinces are taking part in the programme

LAHORE: The Rescue Services Academy on Tuesday started a programme to build instructors’ capacity.  Fourteen new instructors from various provinces (four from the Punjab, three from Gilgit-Baltistan and seven from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) are taking part in the programme. The purpose of the programme is to get accreditation of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) for the Rescue Services Academy.  Experts from the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory, Punjab Police and district administrations will be speak to the participants in the programme.  Emergency Services Academy Director General Amir Hamza said the programme would build instructors’ disaster and emergency management skills. He said that Emergency Services Academy was in the process of getting accredited with international institutions therefore it was equipping its instructors with the latest rescue techniques. Emergency Services Academy Registrar Dr Farhan Khalid informed the academy director general that at least 45 instructors from the Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been enrolled in the ongoing Advanced Training for Instructors (TFI) Programme. He said that some officers had been enrolled in the programme to enhance their supervision, monitoring and command skills.  Commodore SM Shahzad, commander of Lahore station of the Pakistan Navy, inaugurated the programme.
