NICL land deal: Sharifs conspiring to implicate Moonis, says Shujaat Hussain

PML-Q chief accuses PML-N leaders of tainting his reputation.

LAHORE:
The office of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has effectively been transferred from Islamabad to “Jati Umra in Lahore, where the Sharifs are hatching conspiracies against Moonis Elahi”, said PML-Q’s president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Hussain alleged that Nawaz Sharif was “orchestrating the “whole episode” and warned that they should do “only as much injustice as they were willing to endure”.

When reminded that FIA was a federal agency, he said that some top FIA officials had “presented their services” to the Sharifs on the orders of some top federal government officials in a bid to “implicate Moonis Elahi in false cases”.

He asserted that FIA was erecting a baseless and fabricated case against Moonis Elahi and was tainting his reputation by dragging him through “an unjustified media trial”.

Discussing the matter, he said that in fact, Elahi’s name had never cropped up in the FIR and even the actual accused in the case had submitted a sworn statement and categorically denied his involvement in the deal.

Terming FIA and Sharif’s intentions malicious, he said that when the right time comes, he will reveal the hidden hand behind the Sharif-FIA nexus.

He, however, said that the Sharifs had assured “some FIA officials, even if they are sacked, they will get good jobs in their businesses in Saudi Arabia, UK or sugar mills in Pakistan”.

He accused Zafar Qureshi of concealing Mohsin Warraich’s official statement from the Supreme Court, and providing fabricated information to the media. He said that FIA’s dubious role was the major reason for the delay in Elahi’s return.

However, he vowed that Elahi would soon return and face the courts.

Reminding the Sharifs of “numerous occasions where they were provided relief” by his family, Shujaat Hussain said that they had even “helped out one of their manager by the name of Ikram”, but the Sharif family is bent on proving the age-old proverb: ‘Fear those upon whom you show mercy.”

Commenting on the NICL case, he said that the FIR registered by the FIA mentioned no name other than individuals who were actually part of the deal.

Later on political and personal attempts were made to wrongfully implicate Moonis Elahi in the case.

Accusing Zafar Qureshi, the original investigator assigned to probe the case, of wrongdoings, Shujaat Hussain said that he (Qureshi) had deliberately misconstrued facts “to settle old scores”.
