Mian Mir’s urs kicks off today

The 387th annual urs procedings of Hazrat Mian Mir will kick off today (Friday) at his shrine in Dharampura.

The 387th annual urs procedings of Hazrat Mian Mir will kick off today (Friday) at his shrine in Dharampura.

The Urs will start with the traditional ceremony of chadar poshi at the shrine after Asr prayers. Auqaf Minister, Ahsanud Din Quraishi, will lay the chadar. Mufti Iqbal Kharal, Mian Mir Mosque khateeb will lead a special Dua at the commencement of the urs. The milk sabeel (free distribution of milk) installed in front of the shrine will also become operational today after Maghrib prayers.

A special Mehfil-e-Samaa will start after Isha prayers in which nine qawwals will present sufi poetry. The langar (free meals) will begin tomorrow (Saturday) after Zuhr prayers and will continue till the end of the urs.


Stalls of traditional fried food including qatlamas and samosas along with different sweets have also been set up. Although the arrival of pilgrims is very slow this year but vendors believe that things will change once the urs starts. The darbar manager, Abdul Rehman, said that Rs400,000 have been allocated by the Auqaf Department for the two-day urs. One SP, two DSPs and 4 SHOs will monitor police and other security personnel during the urs. “Barbed wire has been placed on all boundary walls. The police are also collecting information on area residents,” he added. The pilgrims will have to pass four check points before they are able to enter the darbar premises.

The urs will conclude on Saturday after Isha prayers.
