Karachi’s Mukka Chowk renamed after Liaquat Ali Khan
Move latest in series of actions taken against MQM following Altaf Hussain’s recent anti-Pakistan tirade

Just days after Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) flags and posters featuring the image of Altaf Hussain were removed from Karachi’s Mukka Chowk, authorities on Monday renamed the city’s famous roundabout as Shaheed-i-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan Chowk.
“The roundabout/junction, connecting Blocks 7, 8 and 9, Azizabad, Federal B Area, Karachi, known as Mukka Chowk, is named as Shaheed-i-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan Chowk, with immediate effect,” a notification issued by the city’s District Municipal Corporation read.
MQM offices razed in Karachi
The move is the latest in a series of actions taken by authorities against the party following Hussain’s anti-Pakistan tirade last week. Following the erstwhile his anti-state diatribe, party workers had attacked the office of a media house and clashed with police, resulting in the death of a person. A dozen people were injured in the clash.
Since then, the government has arrested a number of MQM workers and hundreds of its offices, including its headquarters Nine-Zero, have been sealed. A number of MQM offices built on encroached land have also been razed.
