Sindh govt sacks 43 contract workers
Government removes officers on contract in police, tourism, education, home, revenue and irrigation departments.
KARACHI:
The Sindh government has removed 43 officers working on a contract in the police, tourism, education, home, revenue and irrigation departments.
Following the orders of the Supreme Court, the government constituted a committee a few days ago, under the supervision of agriculture minister Ali Nawaz Shah, to scrutinise the cases of officials appointed on contract.
At least 100 employees, between grades 17 and 20, are working in different capacities. The committee recommended the removal of 62 officials but only 43 names were forwarded to the Pakistan attorney general in the first phase. These names were given after consultation with the Sindh chief secretary.
Officials said that a meeting will be convened on February 12 to discuss this issue.
The chief minister’s spokesperson, Allah Bachayo Memon, confirmed that his name is on the list. He told The Express Tribune that the sacked employees will have no option but to accept their termination from service.
Meanwhile, an official notification on the suspensions is still pending from the service and general administration department.
Former culture and tourism secretary Shams Jafferani, who was appointed as a consultant for the department after his retirement, has been removed. Moreover, home department consultant Collin Kamran Dost and Gorakh Hill Development Authority DG Abdul Qadir Mangi were also sacked.
