Self-love has taken a back seat in Lara Dutta’s life

KARACHI: There was a time when former Miss Universe and successful actor Lara Dutta had all the time in the world for herself. However, self-love has taken a back seat in her life since her daughter’s birth.

The 38-year-old Azhar actor said motherhood changes everything. “Motherhood takes vanity completely out of the picture. When you are coming out of a plane after a long flight with drool all over your clothes, the last thing you are worried about is being photographed. You just want to take your child home,” The Indian Express quoted Dutta as saying.

The actor and her husband Mahesh Bhupati are parents to four-year-old Saira. Stating her daughter is the biggest fashion police, Dutta shared, “Saira has a say in everything I wear. And I guess she should have a say. She looks at everything and has authority on my hair, make-up and clothes.”

While she did take to the ramp for designer Eshaa Amiin at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016, modelling still makes Dutta nervous. “It’s exciting to walk the runway every time. No matter how many times you have walked, every show has its own mood and feel so there is something to look forward to every time,” added Dutta. “However, even after so many years, I still feel a bit nervous.”

Dutta is happy that the Indian fashion industry is more organised now. “The modelling and fashion world is still chaotic but it is definitely a lot more organised than before,” she said. “Earlier, there were few models but now things are more competitive and I am happy that I am kind of out from the scene and doing different things.”

However, what makes her happier is the fact that Indian models are being recognised internationally. “Now even foreign models are coming to India. But it’s fantastic that girls from India, like Laxmi Menon, are going international.”
