Land grabs: LHC seeks reply on the removal of encroachments in Pindi
Senior administrative officials summoned
RAWALPINDI:
Senior administrative officers of Rawalpindi have been summoned before the Lahore High Court (LHC) on August 29 to appraise the court on the removal of encroachments in the city.
Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi of the LHC’s Rawalpindi bench was hearing a contempt plea filed by Advocate Anwar Dar against city managers for failing to remove encroachments from markets and major roads.
In his order on Thursday, Justice Lodhi directed the officials to submit a detailed reply to why they had not implemented the high court’s May 26 order regarding the removal of encroachments.
Citing the city managers as respondents, the petitioner had contended that the officials had failed to implement the court order regarding taking decisive action against encroachments.
The petitioner has cited Director General Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Azmat Mehmood, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Talat Mehmood Gondal, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) CEO Saima Shah, Chaklala Cantt CEO Rana Rafique, Rawal Town Administrator Nazia Perveen, and Pothohar Town Administrator Arif Raheem as respondents.
The petitioner adopted that the judgment had directed city administration to clear the city roads and waterways of encroachments, but it paid no heed to the directives, which goes against the norms of law and justice.
