Around 70 booked for attacking police station in Rawalpindi
The police claimed to have arrested eight alleged attackers and raids were being conducted to arrest the other accused

The Pirwadhai police on Monday booked around 70 persons for attacking the police station and resorted to firing in the air in a bid to get an arrested proclaimed offender released.
The police also claimed to have arrested eight alleged attackers and raids were being conducted to arrest the other accused.
According to Pirwadhai SHO Chaudhry Riaz, the hooligans attacked the police station after they arrested Atif Billa, a proclaimed offender, from his house in Fauji Colony after a raid.
“The accused was wanted to Pirwadhai, Ratta Amral and Ganjmandi police in murder, attempt to murder and robbery cases,” he said.
According to the police official, as the police brought the proclaimed offender to the police station, over 50 members of a “boxer group” gathered outside the police station and started pelting stones, glass bottles besides resorting to firing in the air.
The mob also blocked the Pirwadhai Road for traffic, the SHO said adding that the police sprang into action and baton charged the mob.
“Some of the attackers were arrested by the police, while the rest escaped the scene,” SHO Riaz said.
A criminal case has been registered against the attackers under sections 324 (attempted murder), 395 (robbery), 353 (police encounter), 186 (rioting), 341 (wrongful restraint), 127 (challenging state powers), 149 (unlawful assembly) of Pakistan Penal Code and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, the police official said.
