PESHAWAR:
A division bench of the Peshawar High Court sought the provincial government’s reply on Monday over the case of a couple who tied the knot in a love marriage.
The bench of justices Qaiser Rasheed and Ibrahim Khan were hearing application filed by Muhammad Aqib, a resident of Kotwali locality of Peshawar city.
The petitioner’s counsel told the bench that the applicant married Masooma Bibi from Naushero Feroz in Sindh, but her mother registered a kidnapping case against him with the Kotwali police.
He added Masooma appeared before the court and recorded her statement, saying she married Saqib of her own free will.
The counsel added Aqib was asked to come to the Kotwali police station where he was arrested and sent to jail, while his wife was transferred to Darul Aman.
He maintained the arrest was illegal and he requested that the FIR be quashed and the detained man be released on bail.
The bench, after hearing the arguments, issued a notice to the provincial government and sought its reply by August 25.
Recruitment stayed
The same bench, while hearing a petition challenging the recruitment of primary schoolteachers, restrained the education department from further hiring and sought a reply from the education department secretary.
The petition, filed by Muhammad Zeshaan, claimed the recruitments violated the rules and regulations.
The petitioner said he was ignored despite being eligible for the post. The petitioner’s counsel, Daniyal Asad, said that the education department advertised posts for primary school teachers in Tehkal Bala union council.
He added the petitioner appeared for the NTS test and interview, securing second position. However, he was ignored in the recruitment process on the grounds that he belonged to another district.
He contended that he was a resident of Peshawar and was even born in the city. He requested the bench order authorities to appoint him. The bench, after hearing the arguments, stayed the overall recruitment.
