The investigating officer submitted before East district and sessions judge a release report under Section 497 (2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure for suspect Faizan, citing lack of evidence.
The police officer told the judge that during investigations, no sufficient evidence was found against the suspect for his involvement in the offence. He has been released but not exonerated, the officer added, saying that he could be arrested later on the availability of evidence.
Faizan was picked up by the police for his alleged involvement in the murder of Farhan Ali, a stock broker, by his childhood friends. The incident took place on July 27 inside the deceased’s home in Alfalah Society.
The victim’s family had nominated his six friends —Fayyaz, Farooq, Arshad, Uzair, Sagheer and Adeel — for beating him to death over a monetary dispute. According to the reports, some of the suspects had invested Rs4.5million in the stock market through Farhan but they suffered a monetary loss.
The sessions judge sent Uzair to jail on judicial remand till August 27. The remaining suspects are on bail.
Faizan had maintained innocence since the beginning. He told the police that although he went to the victim’s place at the night of the incident, he did not torture him. The case against him weakened when the victim’s mother, who is an eyewitness to the killing, did not identify him as a murderer before a judicial magistrate.
