KARACHI:
An accountability court issued on Monday arrest warrants for the deputy managing director (MD) and an accounts clerk of Utility Stores Corporation (USC) of Pakistan in a graft case.
The warrants were issued after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a reference against deputy MD Masood Alam Niazi and accounts clerk Ziaullah Khan Warsi of USC for their alleged involvement in corruption involving over Rs19 million.
Pension scam: Three men arrested for fraud
According to NAB, Niazi misused his authority and illegally transferred Rs19,236,702 to a private bank account held by Warsi. The transaction was covered in the name of labour charges for transportation of sugar from a godown in Pipri. It was later found that the charges for the said service were already paid to a handling agent. The accountability courts’ administrative judge asked the investigators to arrest the suspects and present them in a week’s time.
