First old age home in capital soon

Decision was taken after receiving a number of complaints

ISLAMABAD:
A shelter home for elderly will soon be established in the federal capital with an accommodation capacity of 40 persons.

The National Council of Social Welfare (NCSW) Chairperson, Dr Nadeem Shafiq Malik, informed the APP that they would establish the old age home, a first in the city, for male and female inmates in collaboration with a non-government organisation (NGO), Nijat Trust, which was already running two shelter homes in Rawalpindi.

It is unfortunate that such practices are emerging in our society as it is against our traditions, he said. The decision was taken after receiving a number of complaints from the elderly people, Dr Malik added.

He said that the council would provide accommodation and bear utility expenses, while rest of the facilities would be ensured by their partner NGO.

The chairperson stated that the project would be made functional soon after completing all the formalities.
