Mushtaq reportedly demanded Rs500 from his brothers Muhammad Umar and Abu Bakr. He sprinkled petrol on them and set them on fire when they refused. Later, Mushtaq set himself ablaze too.

According to reports, the three have been shifted to Allied Hospital where Abu Bakr and Umar are said to be out of danger. Mushtaq is not critical either.
Initial investigations revealed that the family had been misreporting the incident. Police claimed Mushtaq, a rickshaw driver, was an alcoholic and was not in his senses when he attacked his brothers.
In April, a man allegedly sprinkled kerosene on his daughter and her two children and set them alight in Chak Jhumra area. They had apparently had an argument over property.

A police spokesperson told journalists that Shabnam Bibi, a resident of Chak 153-RB, had asked her father Muhammad Ishaq to give her a share in his property. They had an argument over the matter after which Ishaq tried to set his daughter and grandchildren on fire. His wife, who had tried to help the children, was injured in the incident.
