Doctors’ exemption pleas dismissed
Magistrate dismisses applications seeking exemption from personal appearance in the Imanae Malik murder case.
LAHORE:
A judicial magistrate on Wednesday dismissed applications from five accused doctors seeking exemption from personal appearance in the Imanae Malik murder case.
Malik, 3, died in November 2009 when a doctor treating her for minor burns apparently gave her the wrong injection.
Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique, representing the family of the deceased, submitted that the accused must be present when charges are framed against them so their applications should be dismissed.
Magistrate Sahir Islam dismissed the applications of Dr Ghafoor Ali Shah, Dr Javed Asghar, Dr Tariq Rafique Khan, Dr Mubeen Afzal and Dr Ghulam Yaseen and summoned them for February 26. The challan against three accused was submitted on January 26. The five other doctors were later included in the final challan.
