SUKKUR: The Pakistan Peoples Party on Saturday won the by-elections for PS-14 Jacobabad by a huge margin.

According to unofficial results of all the 163 polling stations, PPP’s Orangzaib Panhwar bagged 24,084 votes, while his opponents Mohammad Aslam Abro of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz mustered 13,498 votes, followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Raja Khan Jakhrani with 8,960 votes.

The seat had fallen vacant after the death of PPP’s Sardar Muqeem Khan Khoso. Voter turnout remained between 25 and 30 per cent.

A heavy contingent of the police and Rangers were deployed inside and outside the polling stations to avert any untoward incident. Of the total 163 polling stations set up, 100 were declared sensitive and 63 ‘most sensitive’.

Interestingly, the Election Commission of Pakistan had deployed male staff at many of the women polling stations due to which most female voters felt uncomfortable.
