Preservation: ‘Shrines in Uch Sharif being restored’

BAHAWALPUR:  

Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said on Saturday that the government of the Punjab was spending a significant amount on preservation of historical buildings in Bahawalpur. He said millions of rupees had been allocated for restoration of the 1,200-year-old Derawar Fort. He said ancient shrines in Uch Sharif were also being restored. He was talking to newsmen during a visit to Derawar Fort. Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab Regional Manager Shahid Mehmood was also present.  “The TDCP made Cholistan Jeep Rally a huge success,” he said. “Thousands of tourists visit the event every year.” The minister also visited the Derawar Shahi Masjid. Mehmood told the minister that the mosque was constructed in 1844. He said the original construction had contained intricate carvings on white marble. The mosque was built by Nawab Muhammad Bahawal.
