MULTAN: A mother of five was killed allegedly by her husband in Sahiwal for filing for divorce, police said on Friday. The suspect has been arrested.

According to the police, Najma Parveen, 45, resident of Jahaz Ground, had filed a divorce case. Her husband Nadeem had wanted her to withdraw the case but she had refused to do so.

Police said he had threatened her with dire consequences unless she withdrew the case. On Thursday night, he had again pressed her to withdraw the case. When she refused, he had shot her, resulting in her immediate death.

Neighbours had gathered on hearing the gunshots and had called the police. Station House Officer (SHO) Rana Zahid had visited the crime scene and later, registered the complaint of Abrar, son-in-law of the deceased.

The SHO told newsmen that the body had been sent to the District Headquarters Hospital  for postmortem examination . He said that Nadeem had been arrested and the investigation was underway.

Abrar said that Nadeem used to beat his wife.  “She had been living at my house for the last month. Nadeem had threatened to kill her, if she did not withdraw the case. When she did not reconcile with him, he killed her,” he added.
