Paying homage: Sufi poet Bedil Bekus' urs inaugurated

SUKKUR/KARACHI:
The three-day annual urs of Sufi poet Fakir Qadir Bux, popularly referred to as Bedil Bekus, was inaugurated on Thursday.
Sindh transport minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah inaugurated the poet's 148th annual urs by laying a chador on his mazar situated in Rohri. Sukkur division commissioner Muhammad Abbas Baloch and a disciple of the dargah, Mian Ghulam Najaf Qureshi, also laid chadors on the mazar.
Speaking on the occasion, Shah paid tribute to Bekus and urged the people to spread the preaching of Sufis saints, which can prove helpful in overcoming their problems. Shah added that Islam dawned in this area because of these Sufis saints and, being Muslims, it is our duty to safeguard each other.
On the last day of the urs, Bedil Yadgar Committee will distribute awards to the writers and poets for their works. Besides this, disciples of various dargahs will visit the mazar to attend the launching ceremony of Bedil's two books. The leader of the opposition, Khurshid Ahmed Shah, will be the chief guest of the event.
