RAWALPINDI: Morgah police on Wednesday obtained four-day physical remand of a 19-year-old, Muhammad Ali, for his alleged connection with a series of knife attacks on women in the recent months.

Judicial Magistrate Faisal Islam remanded the accused into police custody for four days.

The investigators had sought eight-day remand.

The police would produce the accused before the court on August 21st.

Morgah police had claimed that they arrested Ali, resident of Kahuta, on Tuesday for his hand in attacks on as many as six women in last eight months in areas around Morgah and Kotha Kallan.

A senior police officer told The Express Tribune that the arrested man had allegedly confessed before the investigators that he had carried out knife attacks on women and girls.

The attacks had resulted in death of a nurse working at the Fauji Foundation Hospital.

The police officer further confided that the investigators were suspicious about mental health of the man and were planning to have Ali medically examined at the district headquarters hospital.

The police officer, quoting the investigators, said that the Ali had stated that he developed ill feeling towards women after receiving harsh treatment from his stepmother.

It may here be mentioned that the police arrested Ali some five days ago and kept interrogating him.

No victim girl except one had identified Ali as the attacker.

According to legal experts, if it was established that the boy was mentally ill, the law would favour him and he could avoid prosecution.
