Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah said that it was his dream to play at Lord’s and perform well at one of the most iconic venues of the game.
Yasir picked a 10-wicket haul in his debut outing at the ‘Home of Cricket’in the first Test of the recently concluded series, and the 30-year-old expressed his delight in helping his team secure a sensational victory against England. “Every cricketer has a dream to play at Lord’s and perform well, and I had the same dream as well,” said Yasir in a video posted on the official page of the Lord’s Cricket Ground. “I want to thank Allah, as when I came here I was really excited to play on this ground.
“When I came inside the stadium, there was a weird feeling and all I wanted to do was perform well.”
The Swabi-born leggie also revealed that he did not expect the pitch to help him, and all he was trying to do was help the pacers. “That time I was trying to help my team and especially the fast-bowler,” added Yasir. “But after the first three, four overs, I realised the pitch was helping me, so by the grace of the Almighty, I ended up picking more than five wickets in the first innings.”
Yasir also expressed his delight after playing in front of the large audience he witnessed in a Test match. “I enjoyed a lot, as I have never seen such audience in a Test match before,” he said. “So I really wanted to perform well and win hearts of the crowd as well.
