PESHAWAR:
The city administration imposed heavy fines on owners of over six petrol pumps on Phandu Road for selling lesser fuel than that indicated on the meter. The fines were imposed during a raid on Monday.
According to a handout issued on the same day, Consumer Rights Protection Council Assistant Director Said Badshah raided various petrol pumps on Phandu Road. He found the workers there were swindling consumers by filling less fuel in their vehicles. Consequently, he imposed fines on the owners of the stations.
However, not only petrol pumps, but various shops and eateries were also raided by the team.
Eight profiteers, at sweet and milk shops on the same road, were also arrested. Similarly, on the directives of Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud, a team led by Assistant Commissioner Sohail Aziz, arrested 114 profiteers during a raid on various markets of the city, including those in Hashtnagri, GT Road and Tehkal.
Separately, a team of Town-1 administration visited various markets under a drive against encroachments in Ghanta Ghar and Hashtnagri.
During the drive, various items that were kept on carts on the roadside, were confiscated.
The administration warned shopkeepers that encroachments will not be tolerated any cost. The handout quoted Town-1 nazim Zahid Nadeem as saying, “The drive against encroachments will continue across the city.”
