ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau K-P arrested four traders over public complaints of providing substandard items and faking shortage.
NAB K-P authorised an inquiry against Muhammad Ashraf, Qari Muhammad Iftikhar, Muhammad Ahsan Islam and Niaz Muhammad. Subsequently, the public allegations were found to be true, this was when the arrest was made.
All of the accused persons are contractors for K-P Workers Welfare Board (WWB). They were reportedly involved in providing substandard supplies and faking shortage. The equipment included diaries, registers, exercise books, result cards, textbooks, course books, crockery, sport equipment, stationery items, sports kits, PVC pipes, tube lights, welding equipment, micro meters, saws and fiber optics tool kits.
Furthermore, the accused persons in connivance with officials of WWB, got contracts frequently and fraudulently. The whole process of awarding contracts was conducted in sheer violation of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority rules and caused loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer. Tariq Awan, secretary in WWB, who was the main culprit of this scam, has already been arrested by NAB in another case regarding scholarship fraud in WWB.
The accused persons will be produced before an accountability court.
