Balloting: Govt to dole out free wheat seeds
FAISALABAD:
The agriculture department will provide approved varieties of wheat seeds to farmers free of charge in each village through balloting with the objective of increasing the per acre yield. The department has sought applications from the farmers having two to 25 acres of irrigated land and one to 25 acres of barren land by September 15, said officials on Monday. Under the programme, each farmer will be provided 100 kilogrammes of wheat seed for cultivation over two acres of land in irrigated areas, while 50 kilogrammes of seed will be given for cultivation over one acre of land in barren areas through balloting scheduled to be held at the village level. The farmers who were beneficiaries of the programme last year would not be eligible for these schemes this year, they added.
