MULTAN:
A woman chopped off her husband’s legs with an axe after he forbade her from leaving the house in his absence in Vehari, police said on Saturday.
They said an FIR had been registered against her and two others.
A spokesman said Maqsood Ahmad had been admitted to the emergency ward of Vehari District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition after he was attacked with an axe by his 42-year-old wife Maqboola Bibi, her sister Rasoola Bibi and brother-in-law Iqbal.
He said they had tied 50-year-old Ahmad to the bed and cut off his legs.
He said Ahmad had told police that he had forbidden his wife from leaving the house in his absence. He said this had prompted the attack.
The spokesman said neighbours had called Rescue 1122 who took Ahmad to the hospital. He said an FIR had been registered and teams had been formed to arrest the suspects.
Four of a family murdered
Four members of a family were killed following a domestic dispute, Lodhran police said on Saturday.
A police spokesman said on Friday night, Tahir Mahmood, a resident of Chak 386-WB, went to the house of his in-laws to reconcile with his wife, who had moved back with her parents a few weeks ago.
He said the man was accompanied by his sister and her husband and two other men.
He said neighbours had told them that the two sides met for several hours. “At some point, they heard shots ring out from the house,” the spokesman said. He said the visitors were then fleeing from the house following the incident.
The spokesman said Mahmood’s father-in-law, sister-in-law, his wife’s grandmother and her 12-year-old nephew were killed in the incident.
The spokesman said an FIR had been registered under sections 109 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) at Jalla Arrain police station.
The spokesman said Mahmood and his wife had married 18 years ago. He said the couple did not have any children. He said his wife had told them that he often beat her.
He said relatives had told police that this was not the first time she had left because of the abuse. “Apparently, beatings and reconciliation were a routine matter,” he said. “On Friday, she refused to return. Apparently this was followed by Mahmood opening fire on her family.”
The spokesman said teams had been formed to apprehend the suspects.
