HARIPUR:
The body of a teenage boy was exhumed by a medical team from District Headquarters and Teaching Hospital Haripur on Friday to ascertain the cause of death.

The decision to exhume the body was taken on a court order.

An official privy to the development told The Express Tribune 16-year-old Shehzad, a resident of Pharhala village, went to a watermill on August 3 but did not return.

In the evening, his family members went to search for him and found his body near an irrigation channel. The 16-year-old’s body bore torture marks on his face. The deceased was buried on August 4 and his family registered a complaint with judicial magistrate Muhammad Ali. Shehzad’s family firmly believed that he had been murdered and requested the court to determine the cause and manner of death.

The court accepted the application and ordered a medical team to exhume the body. Shehzad’s remains were disinterred in the presence of the judicial magistrate and the police.

According to the police, a detailed autopsy report will be submitted to the court within the next couple of days. The findings of the report will help the police and the court determine whether Shehzad died after he fell from his cycle or was murdered.
