KARACHI:
Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) has announced to close all universities in Sindh for a day if their demands are not accepted by August 30 and the finance director of Karachi University (KU) is not removed immediately.

The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association's (Fapuasa) Sindh chapter has expressed its support of this decision.

KUTS held an emergency general body meeting, which was also attended by representatives of six public sector universities, where it was decided to resolve the ongoing issue of KU's finance director. Participants of the meeting demanded the government start issuing annual grants to universities, particularly release KU's grant and also allow a one-time bailout package for the university. They also asked KU's vice-chancellor to disregard any pressure and pay the annual leave encashment to teachers.

The meeting also demanded that the Sindh Higher Education Commission increase the annual grants. Participants decided that if their demands are not met they will hold a sit-in outside the Chief Minister’s House.
