Offshore companies: Tarakai family to face ECP hearing today
The case had been pending due to the retirement of ECP officials
PESHAWAR:
Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai and his father Senator Liaqat Khan Tarakai will be facing a hearing at the Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday (today) as their names were mentioned in the Panama leaks.
The case had been pending due to the retirement of ECP officials. However, with the authority back to full strength, the case has been reopened and the PTI lawmakers will come in the firing line. ANP Senator Bushra Gohar submitted the case against them at the ECP and demanded their disqualification for making offshore companies.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Gohar said she had submitted the case in May. She added her party has three demands of the ECP. The first is to disqualify Senator Liaqat Khan Tarakai as his name appeared in the Panama papers. The senator added the second was to take action against Minister for Health Shahram Khan Tarakai and MPA Muhammad Ali Tarakai who took the guarantee of Senator Liaqat Tarakai. She said the third demand was for the ECP to take notice of all parliamentarians who were named in the Panama papers.
