Severe shortage: K-P police in need of PSP officers

Home and Tribal Affairs department approached to address matter

PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police are facing an alarming shortage of officers and this has a direct impact on the fight against terrorism and militancy.

Insiders privy to the development told The Express Tribune, the police approached the Home and Tribal Affairs department to address the acute shortage of officers so that the operational capability of units established to curb militancy is maintained.

At present, the K-P police needs five additional IGPs, but only two are on duty. Similarly, there are only eight DIGs against 18 sanctioned posts. Of the 35 sanctioned posts for SSPs, only 17 have been filled.

There is also a shortage in the ranks of SPs as only 57 officers have been posted to 78 available slots.
