Raymond Davis case: SHC disposes ‘US pressure’ petition

Sindh High Court disposes of petition to restrain government from handing over American national.

KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) disposed of a petition to restrain the government from handing over American national Raymond Davis, involved in the recent Lahore killings incident, to the US authorities.

A division bench, comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Imam Bux Baloch, heard the petition filed by Rana Faizul Hassan. Hassan submitted that, despite Davis’s involvement in the killing of three people, the US government was mounting pressure for his release on Pakistan.

He further stated that Davis had killed innocent people and he must, therefore, be punished. He appealed to the court to punish Davis under Pakistani law and to restrain government authorities from handing him over to the US. The SHC order said: “The case regarding the incident involving Raymond Davis, an American citizen, which took place in Lahore, is pending in Lahore High Court.

The petitioner states he is going to approach Lahore High Court either through a fresh proceeding or becoming part in same matter, which is pending in the Lahore High Court. The petition in above terms stands disposed of. The listed applications are also disposed of.”
