ISLAMABAD: The Met office on Tuesday warned that medium to high floods are expected to be generated in the main rivers of Pakistan in next two to three days.
Meanwhile, heavy showers in the next 24 hours may generate flash flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Kashmir.
The office said it has issued alerts to all the departments concerned for taking extra preventive measures well before time to avoid human and property loss.
“Considering the current weather patterns, high to very high flood level are expected in River Jhelum at Mangla (upstream) on Thursday and Friday,” said Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Flood Forecasting Division meteorologist Mohammad Riaz, while talking to The Express Tribune.
He said a very high level flood was reported at Head Marala on August 7. “This flood is currently passing through Head Trimmu which has receded to medium level,” he added.
“Since the onset of monsoon, medium to very high floods have been recorded in various rivers but timely coordination among all the concerned have avoided major loss,” he said.
