ISLAMABAD:
A roadside bomb blast killed at least two security personnel in the Bajaur tribal region of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) on Tuesday.

The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the responsibility.

"Two soldiers, havaldar Mushtaq and havaldar Khurshid embraced shahdat [martyrdom] in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Bajaur today,” the army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said.

The Taliban spokesman Muhammad Khorasani said the group carried out the attack through a planted device in Charmang area.

The TTP had once used Bajaur Agency that borders Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province as one of their strong bases. However, the security forces cleared the areas of the militants in major operation in 2008-2009.

Officials say some Taliban have crossed the border into Afghanistan and launch the attacks from there.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the IED attack on security personnel in Bajaur Agency.

“These cowardly attacks show that terrorists are on retreat. These terrorists are using such tactics because they cannot sustain the wrath of our valiant forces who always lead from the front,” he said in a statement.
