NEW DELHI:
Actor Prachi Desai recently revealed that the Indian film industry focuses more on looks than anything else.
“I think there are a lot of brilliant actors who probably don’t get the same kind of positioning or they don’t get their due, because of certain reasons... I think looks is something that this industry gives a lot more importance to,” Prachi said, in an interview.
The 27-year-old star was last seen on screen in Azhar. In the film, she shared screen space with her Once Upon a Time in Mumbai co-star Emraan Hashmi and Nargis Fakhri. She went on to add that people don’t give much importance to talent.
“I think more than talent, what people get aroused by is looks. I think that’s what the industry cares about,” she added.
During her eight-year journey in Bollywood, Prachi has mostly essayed roles of the girl-next-door. “The very moment someone offers me a fabulous role, I am totally game for it. I think it is certainly a matter of chance and opportunity, which I think is needed here. I do think that actors do get typecast. I think they get slotted into genres,” she said. “I also feel that people slot actors and just try to exploit that over and over again. It’s easy for the audience to relate to you with that, but I have a lot more to offer.”
The actor added that she is perfectly capable of dabbling in various genres of films and plans to do just that in the future. When asked which genre would she like to explore next, Prachi said, “What I really want to do is a love story.”
She will soon be seen starring in Rock On!! 2, alongside actors Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Shraddha Kapoor and Purab Kohli.
